People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have not always been included in research about them. While today's research about people with IDD is more inclusive, when designing research methods, intentional efforts must be made to maximize people with IDD's participation. Although online surveys are a common research method, there are a number of disadvantages to using online surveys with people with IDD. Based on a study conducted about housing for people with IDD in the United States, this case study describes the advantages and disadvantages of online surveys for people with IDD. This case also provides recommendations about how to improve the accessibility of online surveys for people with IDD.
