This dataset was created to guide students through the process of analyzing values within narratives. These data are provided by Dr. Tanzina Ahmed (of the City University of New York's (CUNY) Kingsborough Community College), Dr. Rositsa T. Ilieva (of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute and The New School), and Anita Yan (of CUNY Brooklyn College). It is drawn from a 2017 research study that investigated how minority community college students within a large urban Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) wrote about their experiences of food accessibility and hunger (i.e., food insecurity) on campus within letter narratives directed at their college president. The examples demonstrate how a values analysis of students' writing demonstrates their perceptions of food accessibility on campus and their relationship with their college institution. The dataset files are accompanied by a Teaching Guide and a Student Guide.
