Actions for Qualitative sentiment analysis of YouTube comments on selected news reports of a unilateral abrogation of a peace pact between two state institutions
Qualitative sentiment analysis of YouTube comments on selected news reports of a unilateral abrogation of a peace pact between two state institutions / Alwin C Aguirre
This dataset demonstrates the process of Qualitative Sentiment Analysis as a specific approach to 'affective-discursive analysis' as outlined by Margaret Wetherell (2012). The data are provided by Dr Alwin C. Aguirre of the University of the Philippines, Diliman. It was drawn from the publicly accessible YouTube comments section of selected news coverage of the 2021 unilateral abrogation of the University of the Philippines and Department of National Defense Peace Accord, a landmark agreement in 1989 that prevented the militaristic incursion of state forces into the national university's campuses. The example focuses on what Alex McConville et al. (2014) terms as 'emotional possibilities', ones that are particularly offered by online talk that not only reflects a lack of complex understanding of peace and conflict issues but also could possibly lead to the promotion of an emotional culture that precludes the actual realisation of peace and resolution of underlying societal dilemmas. The dataset would be of most use to students of discourse, media, or cultural studies and who already have some experience of qualitative research. The dataset files are accompanied by a Teaching Guide and a Student Guide.
