This case presents a case study with an ethnographic approach as the strategy of inquiry. The method is presented using a case study of cultural diversity and inclusion in the workplace as an example. The study explores how organizational practices enhance and hinder the inclusion of immigrants in a multicultural workplace, with three nursing homes in Oslo (Norway) as the empirical locus. In a case study, it is common to use a variety of methods for data collection, which generates thick descriptions of the case as well as the issue of concern. Participant observation, shadowing, and interviews were used in the case study presented in this case study. Combining observation and interviews may contribute to improving the quality of both methods. To identify the characteristics of enacted organizational practices, an ethnographic approach is recommended. In observational studies, it is useful to identify key situations, sites, or actors that will be observed to delimit and focus the gaze. In qualitative studies, there are no clear boundaries between the researcher and the researched, therefore, researchers must continuously reflect on how they influence the research process. Research on immigrants or other minority groups requires researchers to be particularly attentive to the power imbalance in the research process.
