Ethiopian Airlines is the only African airline that has earned global recognition. The airline has had a successful strategic focus with a long-term goal of dominating the African aviation market. However, it faces several threats: aviation giants taking over African skies; the lack of an open-skies framework on the continent; and an aviation sector under state control and high levels of regulation. Moving forward, Ethiopian Airlines must determine whether its focus on the African continent is a sound long-term strategy.
