Summary
The US Census Bureau processes the data obtained by field collection and data capture operations are subjected to a subsequent state of editing and imputation with the goal of producing a set of data that describes the population as accurately and clearly as possible. One way corrections are made is through allocation, ie, the imputation of responses for missing person or housing-unit characteristic data. The general procedure for changing unacceptable entries through allocation was to derive an entry for a person (or housing unit) that was consistent with entries for another person (or housing unit) with similar characteristics. Counts are reported here of the population for which race was and was not allocated. Detailed information on data editing and the imputation process used by the Census Bureau is provided in Chapter 7 of the Summary File 1 Technical Documentation. The U.S. Census Bureau's Summary File 1 (SF1) presents data from the 2010 decennial Census of Population and Housing. The US Census counts every resident in the US every 10 years, as mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution. The data collected by the decennial census are used to determine the number of seats each state has in the US House of Representatives and to allocate federal funds to local communities. The SF1 contains 100 percent of data asked of all people and about every housing unit at the national and subnational levels.
