Summary
Reports the number of days during the year that levels of carbon monoxide exceeded National Ambient Air Quality Standards. The EPA has set National Ambient Air Quality Standards for six principal pollutants, which are called "criteria" air pollutants. Included in this dataset are counts of days in counties and metropolitan areas of the United States in which the standard was exceeded for criteria air pollutant gases and particulate matter: ground-level ozone, particle pollution, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide. Note that lead is considered a criteria pollutant; statistics on lead pollution are reported in the Annual Pollutant Metrics by Monitoring Site. For information on the standards and associated metrics, see the Technical Documentation. Data users should be aware that many areas have monitoring stations for some, but not all, of the pollutants.
