- Summary
- Gasoline having an antiknock index (average of the research octane rating and the motor octane number) greater than or equal to 85 and less than 88. Note: Octane requirements may vary by altitude. Conventional is defined as finished motor gasoline not included in the reformulated gasoline category. Excludes reformulated gasoline blendstock for oxygenate blending (RBOB) as well as other blendstock. Note: this survey designates all motor gasoline collected within a conventional area as conventional gasoline; a conventional area is defined as any area that does not require the sale of reformulated gasoline. All types of finished motor gasoline may be sold in this area. Data are from Form EIA-878, "Motor Gasoline Price Survey" and Form EIA-888, "On-Highway Diesel Fuel Price Survey". Retail prices for all three grades of gasoline are collected by telephone from a sample of approximately 900 retail gasoline outlets. Retail on-highway diesel prices are collected by telephone and fax from a sample of approximately 350 retail diesel outlets, including truck stops and service stations. Detailed sample methodology and information are available at http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/wrgp/sampling_methodology.html and http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/weekly_on_highway_diesel_prices/current/html/2cycasr.htm.
