Summary
Reports greenhouse gas emissions by process, by state, county, and emitting facility. All emissions data is presented in units of metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent using global warming potentials (GWPs) from IPCC's AR4. The EPA Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) collects greenhouse gas (GHG) data from large emitting facilities, suppliers of fossil fuels and industrial gases that result in GHG emissions when used, and facilities that inject carbon dioxide underground. Sage Data publishes data on direct emitters, defined as facilities that combust fuels or otherwise put GHGs into the atmosphere directly from their facility. EPA estimates that the GHGRP data reported by direct emitters covers about half of total U.S. emissions. The GHGRP was implemented in compliance with EPA rule 40 CFR Part 98 published on October 30, 2009, requiring mandatory reporting of GHGs from sources that in general emit 25,000 metric tons or more of carbon dioxide equivalent per year in the United States. Smaller sources and certain sectors such as the agricultural sector and land use changes are not included in the GHGRP. Facilities report data directly to EPA using an online tool.
