Summary
Reports a count of days when the Air Quality Index (AQI) of an area was within a range of 101 to 150, rated as "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups." Although general public is not likely to be affected at this AQI range, people with lung disease, older adults and children are at a greater risk from exposure to ozone, whereas persons with heart and lung disease, older adults, and children are at greater risk from the presence of particles in the air. This dataset presents a count of days by value of AQI. Daily values are recorded at reporting locations in counties and metropolitan areas of the United States for five major air pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act: ground-level ozone, particle pollution (also known as particulate matter), carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide. The EPA converts those measurements to index values ranging from 0 (healthy) to 500 (hazardous), which is reported as the AQI, providing a measure of how clean or polluted the air is in an area: the higher the AQI value, the greater the level of air pollution and the greater the health concern. Annual values are system-computed summarized averages.
