- Summary
- Provides a count of households by money income bracket. Money income excludes payments-in-kind such as food stamps, agricultural payments-in-kind, and the value of in-kind medical payments; the imputed rental value of owner-occupied housing; the imputed value of certain interest payments such as the value to consumers of free non-interest-bearing checking accounts; all other labor income; capital consumption adjustments for proprietors; inventory valuation adjustments, although sometimes this is negative; and lump-sum payments such as liability judgments and consumer defaults on debts to businesses. For the U.S. as a whole, Woods & Poole estimates that money income is about 25% less than total personal income; at the regional level, the difference varies depending on the specific composition of total personal income. Total personal income includes all of money income plus the exclusions to money income. The Complete U.S. Database by Woods & Poole provides annual historical and projected estimates of population and economic variables across the US to 2050. All data 2019-2050 are projected. Woods & Poole uses historical data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and Census Bureau, both of which are part of the US Department of Commerce, to estimate its projections. Woods & Poole did not include a 2020 estimate of historical data, incorporating COVID-19, in the 2020 forecast because the data were unclear about what the estimate should be and because the long-term impact of an estimate could not be made reliably. Much of the economic projections relies on BEA historical data, including county-level data for employment and earnings. Other sources of data include the decennial censuses, postcensal reports for population and household data, and the quinquennial Census of Retail Trade. Census Bureau population estimates are used as the basis for estimates of single-age, sex, and race projections. Projections from 2019 to 2050 are based on regional model and export-base projection methods applied to historical county databases from the BEA and Census Bureau. All other geographic projected estimates are based on those county estimates.
