- Summary
- Reports the number of full- and part-time jobs by place of work. Statistics include wage and salary workers, proprietors, private household employees, and miscellaneous workers. Wage and salary employment data are based on an establishment survey in which employers are asked the number of full- and part-time workers at a given establishment. Because part-time workers are included, a person holding two part-time jobs would be counted twice. Jobs are counted by place of work and not place of residence of the worker. Data on proprietors include farm and non-farm proprietors by sector. Private household employment data include persons employed by a household on the premises. Miscellaneous employment data include judges and all elected officials, persons working only on commission in sectors such as real estate and insurance, students employed by the colleges or universities in which they are enrolled, and unincorporated subcontractors in sectors such as construction. The employment data are by two-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) industry. For years 1969-2000, Woods & Poole estimated the NAICS industry data from the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) assignment provided by the BEA. The Complete U.S. Database by Woods & Poole provides annual historical and projected estimates of population and economic variables across the US to 2060. All data 2023-2060 are projected. Woods & Poole uses historical data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and Census Bureau, both of which are part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, to estimate its projections. The Woods & Poole 2024 projections are based on annual historical data from 1969 to 2022. In the 2024 projections historical time series data through 2019 and for the year 2022 are used for the forecasts. Data for 2020 and 2021 are not used in the time series because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Much of the economic projections relies on BEA historical data, including county-level data for employment and earnings. Other sources of data include the decennial censuses, postcensal reports for population and household data, and the quinquennial Census of Retail Trade. Census Bureau population estimates are used as the basis for estimates of single-age, sex, and race projections. Projections are based on regional model and export-base projection methods applied to historical county databases from the BEA and Census Bureau. All other geographic projected estimates are based on those county estimates.
