- Summary
- Presents earnings of employees by industrial sector in 2012 dollars. Earnings are defined as the sum of wages and salaries, other labor income, and proprietors' income. Earnings also include personal contributions for social insurance, but do not include residence adjustment. Historical earnings data are from the Bureau of Economic Analysis BEA. As with employment, earnings data are by place of work, so that earnings of an employee who works in one county but resides in another are counted in the county where the job is. Earnings are provided by 2-digit industry as defined in the 2002 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). For years 1969-2000, Woods & Poole estimated the NAICS industry data from the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) assignment provided by the BEA. Earnings relates to workers' compensation and is not a measure of company earnings or profits. The Complete U.S. Database by Woods & Poole provides annual historical and projected estimates of population and economic variables across the US to 2050. All data 2020-2050 are projected. Woods & Poole uses historical data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and Census Bureau, both of which are part of the US Department of Commerce, to estimate its projections. This edition of the database contains the estimated COVID-19 impact on the economy and population for 2020 and 2021. Much of the economic projections relies on BEA historical data, including county-level data for employment and earnings. Other sources of data include the decennial censuses, postcensal reports for population and household data, and the quinquennial Census of Retail Trade. Census Bureau population estimates are used as the basis for estimates of single-age, sex, and race projections. Projections are based on regional model and export-base projection methods applied to historical county databases from the BEA and Census Bureau. All other geographic projected estimates are based on those county estimates.
