- Summary
- (v. 1) Covers various eligibility requirements for pilot and medical certifications, aircraft components, aerodynamics, axes of flight, stalls and spins, and the Pitot-static system.
(v. 2) Covers gyroscopic forces and flight-information instruments; aviation power plants, including fuel and fuel systems, the carburetor and carburetor ice, and the ignition system; and the concepts and computation of weight and balance as they relate to an aircraft.
(v. 3) Covers the changing conditions, such as pressure and density-altitude, crosswind and headwind, takeoff and rate of climb, and gross weight, that affect an aircraft's performance; use of performance charts; preflight inspection; airspace; aeronautical radios; wake turbulence and jet blast; traffic patterns; runway markings; and night flying.
(v. 4) Covers different weather conditions that can affect an aircraft, cloud formations, kinds of thunderstorms, the four main air mass source regions, frontal boundaries, sources of weather information, and charts and weather reports available to the pilot.
(v. 5) Covers Federal Aviation Regulations pertinent to student and private pilots, including certification, ratings, and the log book; National Transportation Safety Board Rules; and various flight information publications and how to use them efficiently in planning a cross-country flight.
(v. 6) Covers the basic principles of navigation, pilotage, and dead reckoning; use of VFR sectional charts in planning a cross-country flight; radio navigation aids, focusing on the VOR system to establish a cross fix and to do a ground speed-distance check; and use of the automatic direction finder.
(v. 7) Covers use of the E6B manual computer for handling preflight steps in dead-reckoning navigation, use of the wind side of the E6B, use of the electronic computer to solve navigation problems, and all tools and steps used in planning and piloting a cross-country flight.
(v. 8) Covers recognizing and coping with the physiological changes a pilot might expect to encounter while in flight, emergency procedures for engine failure and forced landings, and basic survival techniques in case of a forced landing. - Subject(s)
