- The collection includes a letterbook,1783-1802, of Ralph Wormeley (1745-1806), tobacco planter of Rosegill, Middlesex County, Va., to British merchants and other Virginia residents. Topics include sale and shipping of tobacco, insurance on tobacco cargo, claims against the United States for reimbursement of war losses and pre-Revolutionary debts, and effects of American legislation on commerce. Topics also include the sale of tobacco for John Tayloe's estate, guardianship of John Tayloe's son, the benefits of English education and Eton, opinion of the U.S. Constitution, sale and delivery of African American slaves (1797), and the sudden insanity and death of Ralph Wormeley's son (1801).
