Biographical or Historical Sketch
Peter M. Deshong of New York was a mental calculator--a person with a prodigious ability in some area of mental calculation, such as multiplying large numbers or factoring large numbers. He is listed as number 24 on the list of 100 greatest mental calculators. Deshong traveled in the United States lecturing on and demonstrating his computing skills. He died of apoplexy aboard the steamer City of Toronto in October 1850.
