Biographical or Historical Sketch
William C. Bullitt held several ambassadorial posts in U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration. In August 1943, Bullitt left the Roosevelt administration to run as the Democratic Party candidate for the mayor of Philadelphia, but lost in the general election.
